Slowly, Slowly.

If you observe the way our society is drifting it is difficult not to mention the word fascism. We would do well to remember Hitler and fascism in Germany didn't arrive with two guns blazing. It was little increments at a time, slowly, slowly, that people didn't pay too much attention to all those little changes. Only with hindsight can we see the monumental change that took place over time in Germany.
In Haffner’s telling, the collapse of freedom and the rule of law occurred in increments, some of which seemed to be relatively small and insignificant. In 1933, when Nazi officers stood menacingly outside Jewish shops, Jews were merely “offended. Not worried or anxious. Just offended.” But Haffner insists that Hitler’s brutality and the ongoing politicization of everyday life were clear from the outset. In the early days of the regime, a self-styled republican advised him to avoid skeptical comments, which would be of no use: “I think I know the fascists better than you. We republicans must howl with the wolves.”
Whatever the reason, lately we have seen some dramatic changes in the way we are legislated to live. As time goes by, lots of these changes will be absorbed into the "new" way of living, and there will be controls in place to see that you adhere to these "new" rules. Your freedoms and choices will become more limited than they are at present. The direction is always the same, more legislation, more rules to be obeyed, less freedom of choice. How far down that road will we go willingly, and how far before we rebel and reverse that ever tightening control. Shall we wait until that fascism is so blatantly obvious and its vicious grip too tight?
Under such circumstances as we are living with its ever increasing lurch towards more control over our lives, the only real answer is to turn our direction the other way, to be a rebel, to be aware of the link by link that is being created to tie you down and refuse to accept the drift to an ever tighter state controlled environment.

The Rebel

Rebel rebel break the rule,
What does it matter that a “wise” man sees a fool.
Not for you the herd’s dull beat
Making tomorrow, yesterday’s repeat,
Living out the life of a clone
Marching with the crowd but always alone.
Shaping your life from some dusty tome
Playing it safe, staying at home.
Rebel rebel break the rule
Swim in the sea, never the pool.
Live your emotions, feel the surge
Follow your dreams, chase the urge.
Make life though short, an exciting game
Not a mad march for fortune or fame.
Capture the moment, live it now
Being alive your only vow.
Rebel rebel break the rule
In the end, you’re humanity’s jewel.

Anarchy Is For lovers.

We at Spirit of Revolt are always busy getting as many documents, serials, pamphlets, leaflets, articles, photos etc. up on our website to make our history easily accessible for all. Though there are lots of fascinating material already available on the website, now and again something comes up for uploading and it seems relevant to draw attention to that particular item.
Because anarchism, anarchists, due to the bad-mouthed misinformation from the mainstream media, these two words are probably the most misunderstood in the English language. As a result of this distortion of the truth, anarchists are deemed to be destructive and violent, while anarchism is portrayed as chaos, against organisation and devoid of co-operation. Nothing could be further from the truth, anarchism is based on the love of humanity, the desire for justice and freedom of choice for all, all bound up with responsibility for your actions. Anarchists are against hierarchical power, injustice, exploitation, and will always stand up against these distortions of humanity.
So we thought we would draw attention to this months “Read of the Month” it is taken from our John Cooper Collection, T SOR 3-52-145, Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Anarchism But Were Afraid To Ask. First published by The Anarchist Media Group. This edition published jointly by Black Sheep, Dark Star & Rebel Press.

Being informed is to be nearer the truth, enjoy and learn.

My Tribe Is Humanity.

Most people will openly condemn tribalism, but somehow a considerable number will embrace nationalism, which really is just a bigger tribalism. Nationalism, like tribalism needs to believe that its people are different, and in some way superior to other people outside its proclaimed territory. It also sees others as enemies and a threat to its perceived superior ways and culture. In the face of these “differences” the tribe/nation will always see itself on the higher moral ground. This proclamation of being different denies the existence of the common humanity, that golden thread that should link us all together. The existence of tribalism/nationalism is always a useful tool in the armoury of the wealthy and powerful elite within that given territory, as they can always call on the tribe to defend the elite’s privileges by citing an attack on our, “superior way of life” by “the other”.
No matter the stupidity and destructiveness of tribalism/nationalism, we all carry some responsibility for its persistence, by our quiet acquiescence. We empower the elite, privileged cabal that fosters and gains from this illusion, by indulging in their voting pantomime, we finance them with our taxes, and many fall in line to fight their territorial wars.
Embracing tribalism/nationalism is abandoning your individuality, and at the same time your commonality with the rest of humanity, and discarding your right to freedom of choice. At the same time you are endorsing a system of barriers between people, placing people on a scale of divisions according to their territory and culture. Our tribe is humanity, we are all human, we need each other if we are to survive and create that better world for all. We have to bring down the barriers, abandon tribalism/nationalism and make our borders evaporate. This will only happen when we finally destroy capitalism, the economic system that fosters and thrives on these divisions.

 Patriotism.

No, I shall not die for the fluttering flag,
if truth be known, ’tis nothing but a multi-coloured rag
held aloft by some foolish hand
inciting worker and peasant to kill
on some green and wooded hill,
peasant and worker from some other land.
Nor shall I shed blood for the fluttering rag
that brings out fools to stand and brag
of brutal deeds painted grand,
deeds where rustic and craftsman lie so still
killed by my brothers' misguided hand.
No allegiance have I for the Nation
this man made autocratic creation
that divides my brothers in a world so small,
binds us to a country's cause, right or wrong,
bids us follow its drum, sing its song,
then sheds our blood in some border brawl.
No, I'll be no slave to flag or nation,
have no ear for power oration,
though its iron heel is on my breast,
my back feels its leather thong,
at patriotism's barracoon, I'll be no guest.

The Holy Crap Of Vicious Religions.

With sickening regularity, another child sexual abuse case in the Catholic Church hits the headlines. This time it is the top of the tree that has had the spotlight shine on him, a Cardinal no less. When will people realise that the Catholic Church has been riddled with this sort of thing for centuries, it is not a modern phenomena, it is part and parcel of its history. I have always maintained that it is not just the humble priests that are guilty of this. Priests get promoted and no doubt some of those will continue secret perversion as they move up the ladder. How many guilty higher ranking clergy are now sitting in the judgement seat of of known colleagues with the same perversion.
The whole institution stinks from top to bottom for a multitude of reasons, child sexual abuse is just one of that multitude. Others include stifling freedom of expression, control over people's rights to choose, brainwashing children into believing in a man in the sky, who will send them to hell for all eternity if they don't obey their perverted and irrational rules. In all its history it has been an instrument of control with bizarre, cruel and barbaric punishments on those who would dare to disbelieve their hogs-wash.
As I have said, it is a scar on the face of humanity, an impediment to freedom of speech and choice, its brutal and violent past has not been abandoned willingly, it has been contained by public outrage and disgust.
Debates in international forums and in mainstream media on the role, responsibility, liability, and response of ecclesiastical authorities of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) toward clerical child sexual abuse (cCSA) fail to take into account the historical roots and awareness of the problem. Reports also fail to mention the historic organizational laws RCC developed over centuries. In contrast, RCC documents evidence that the Catholic Church not only carried century's old history of cCSA, but also repeatedly condemned cCSA by successive papal authorities, organizational laws, and institutional management mechanisms. During the first millennium, however, church laws remained confined to the bookshelves and were not converted into appropriate management policies and infrastructural models. This was largely due to the absence of a central administrative organizational structure, which developed later in the 12th century, following the Second Council of Lateran (1139) when the Papacy asserted its authority to establish administrative control over the organizational church. It was only then that management policies started to be framed and institutional structures enacted to deal more appropriately with cCSA from the 14th to 20th centuries. Despite this, RCC developed a culture of secrecy using clandestine organizational management models and institutional laws prescribed in 1568, 1622, 1741, 1866, 1922, and 1962 which aimed to manage cCSA. The current study traces reported cCSA as far back as the first century and critically examines the organizational laws, and institutional policies developed by RCC to address clerical sexual misconduct up to the end of the 19th century.(
From Wikipedia:

Sexual abuse has existed in the Catholic Church since at least as far back as the 11th century, when Peter Damian wrote a scathing treatise, Liber Gomorrhianus, against such abuses and others. In 1531, Martin Luther claimed that Pope Leo X had vetoed a measure that cardinals should restrict the number of boys they kept for their pleasure, "otherwise it would have been spread throughout the world how openly and shamelessly the pope and the cardinals in Rome practice sodomy."[23]
I don't write these things an an enemy of the Catholic Church, but as a lifelong enemy of all religions. They are all power structures, that aim to control the population within their irrational dogma under the threat of punishment. They all preach peace and love, but will have no hesitation in slaughtering non-believers and those of other religions. All religions have a gory blood stained past, which from time to time bursts forth to the surface even today. How many bloody conflicts across the globe can be laid at the feet of opposing religions and religious factions? Too many to count and too many to allow us to let religions maintain their vicious grasp of people's minds.

Polite, Well Dressed, Enemies Of Freedom.

I don't know about others, but I can't quite get my head round  those who seem to think they have the right to tell other people what and what they can, and can't do, with their body. One type of individual that really screws my mind is the male, who decides he has the right to tell a woman, what control, or lack of control, she has over her body. John Deigan is such a man, he is CEO of SPUC, Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child, his previous position was The Parliamentary Officer for the Bishops' Conference of Scotland. Therefore, we are to assume that he got the details of his mission from that male chauvinist guy in the sky. So John is a holy Joe, a devout Catholic, a man of God, this, he believes gives him the right to control the lives of others who may, or may not, share his beliefs. He has made the statement, "There is no evidence that abortion has ever saved one woman’s life and we’ve now had 8.2 million of them in the UK." His ultimate position is: "There is never any reason for an abortion."  This, in my book, puts him in the category of a dangerous authoritarian control freak.
John's SPUC, is one of a coalition of religious fundamentalist groups, behind the Don't Stop A Beating Heart campaign, who are banding together to push harder for turning the clock back to the days when abortions were band outright, where the fundamentalist Catholic church view is law. These people are dangerous, the have the wealth of the church behind them, they worm their way into positions of influence and authority, they are the enemies of democracy and freedom of choice. No gods, no masters.

MEN IN FUNNY CLOTHES DO FUNNY THINGS,BUT NOBODY IS LAUGHING!!

It's the same the world over, no matter the religion, those men in funny clothes who, by fair means or foul, find themselves as leaders of their particular god sect, like to make a display of authority by poking their noses into other people's affairs. When it happens in other countries our babbling brook of bullshit, the media, refer to them as fundamentalists. When it happens in our own country, they are referred to as "leaders of the church". Scotland is no different, here we have the fundamentalist leader of the Catholic church, Cardinal O'Brien, doing his damnedest to prevent peaceful people from making their own choice of lifestyle. He is trying to coerce his followers to endorse his ridged fundamentalist views and bully the Scottish government into abandoning its one small step towards freedom of choice. Why don't they all go away and do their prayer thing and leave the rest of us in peace.  Whatever choice gays and lesbians make it at no time involves a policy of trying to get all the Catholics in the country to follow their life style. So Cardinal, go do what your trained to do, talk to that invisible man in the sky, and do it in the privacy of your big fancy buildings and I promise you, nobody will interfere in your life choice.

The Scottish government is this close to legalizing gay marriage. But with plans to allow same-sex couples to marry within three years, leaders of the Scottish Catholic Church are resisting and denigrating same-sex unions as "grotesque."
Tell Cardinal Ketih O'Brien to retract his offensive comments about same-sex couples and support marriage equality »
In legalizing gay marriage, the government is taking great pains to ensure that no member of the clergy will have to compromise their belief, by ensuring clergy aren't required to administer ceremonies unless they choose to.
But carving out a religious exception isn't enough for Cardinal O'Brien, who'd prefer to superimpose his values on the Scottish people by denying all gays and lesbians the chance marry. He's rousing his followers and lobbying politicians to keep discrimination the status quo. We can't let him win.
Demand Cardinal O'Brien back down and defend equal rights, not keep some Scots second-class citizens »

TEAPOT COLLECTIVE - INTRODUCTION TO ANARCHY.

This is the second page from that wonderful wee booklet Introduction to Anarchy by the Teapot Collective, the first page having been posted about a week ago.
Page 2.
WHAT IS ANARCHY?
Like most really good ideas, Anarchy is pretty simple when you get down to it - people are at their best when they are living free of authority, co-operating and deciding things among themselves rather than being ordered around. That's what the word means - 'without government'. Most of us know this anyway. We trust and rely on our friends, neighbours and workmates far more than on the politicians and bosses that we're supposed to need to run our lives.

In fact most people haven'y got a good word to say about politicians from any party, and how many people like their bosses, or even think they do anyting useful? But why stop at just slagging them off? Why not do away with them and let the people that live in a street, town,or whole area decide what happens there? The people that work somewhere decide together how to do the job, or even if it's worth doing at all? Produce the essentials of life for need instead of profit and distrobute it freely and equally? This isn't some party plarform though. What people could do with their lives would obviouly be up to them, but whatever they decided it would at least be their decision.
